T cells: A proliferation of costimulatory molecules
نویسنده
چکیده
The identification and characterization of a newly extended family of molecules related to the T-cell costimulatory proteins CD28 and B7 suggests that a distinct form of costimulatory signals could be important for effector T-cell responses outside of lymphoid tissues.

B7-CD28 interaction promotes proliferation and survival but suppresses differentiation of CD4-CD8- T cells in the thymus.
Costimulatory molecules play critical roles in the induction and effector function of T cells. More recent studies reveal that costimulatory molecules enhance clonal deletion of autoreactive T cells as well as generation and homeostasis of the CD25(+)CD4(+) regulatory T cells. However, it is unclear whether the costimulatory molecules play any role in the proliferation and differentiation of T ...
متن کاملT-cell tolerance or function is determined by combinatorial costimulatory signals.
Activated in immune responses, T lymphocytes differentiate into effector cells with potent immune function. CD28 is the most prominent costimulatory receptor for T-cell activation. However, absence of CD28 costimulation did not completely impair effector function of CD4 or CD8 T cells. Moreover, increasing number of costimulatory molecules are recently found on antigen-presenting cells to regul...
متن کاملProstaglandin E(2) enhances T-cell proliferation by inducing the costimulatory molecules OX40L, CD70, and 4-1BBL on dendritic cells.
Dendritic cell (DC)-based immunotherapy of malignant diseases relies on 2 critical parameters: antigen transport from the periphery to draining lymph nodes and efficient priming of primary and stimulation of secondary immune responses. Prostaglandin E(2) (PGE(2)) signaling has been shown to be pivotal for DC migration toward lymph node-derived chemokines in vitro and in vivo. Here, we demonstra...
متن کاملExpression of costimulatory molecules in the bovine corpus luteum
BACKGROUND Bovine luteal parenchymal cells express class II major histocompatibility complex (MHC) molecules and stimulate class II MHC-dependent activation of T cells in vitro. The ability of a class II MHC-expressing cell type to elicit a response from T cells in vivo is also dependent on expression of costimulatory molecules by the antigen presenting cell and delivery of a costimulatory sign...
متن کاملThe net effect of costimulatory blockers is dependent on the subset and activation status of the autoreactive T cells.
In this study, we investigated whether CD4 and CD8 autoreactive T cells have different costimulatory requirements for their activation in vitro by testing the effect of a panel of Abs specific for various costimulatory molecules. Our results showed that CD8 interphotoreceptor retinoid-binding protein-specific T cells are more dependent on costimulatory molecules for activation than their CD4 co...
